We often talk about our world and how we can make it better. Our world is beautiful, but we can always do more to keep it that way. Our project this week focuses on the things you love about our planet and looking at them in new ways, combining them into new and beautiful forms.
UVU art student Sarah Hales and her piece Whalth are the inspiration for this week's project. You can view her piece online as part of the Student Art Exhibition. Hales’ illustrated creature looks as if it is made from parts of different animals, including the tale of a whale. It has plant parts, too: its furry legs look like roots, its face is a landscape, and mushrooms grow on its body.

Questions to ask yourself:
●    What brings you joy when you see our planet?
●    What would make you sad if it was no longer here?
●    How can you make this world a better place?
Materials:
●    Sketchbook
●    Pencil and eraser
●    Any medium of your choice (paint, crayons, ink, pencil, etc.)
●    White paper or white cardstock
Directions:
●    In the sketchbook, write down the answers you had to our questions.
●    In the sketchbook, draw things you love about this planet. You can Google search for pictures of the plants and/or animals you choose for more inspiration. Experiment with  different shapes and forms to see what you like.
●    Next, try combining your plants and/or animals together. You can test some of these combinations in your sketchbook. As you plan, remember that line and color can have meaning. In the example shown above, the lack of color shows the emptiness the natural world would have without our help.
●    Last, draw your final design on the paper or cardstock to create your finished piece. What message does your creation send?
Feel inspired, be creative, and have fun!
