In this week's art project, we are celebrating women’s history month with painter Bridget Riley. Bridget Riley was a well-traveled woman who found inspiration for her art in the many journeys she took. Her paintings experiment with movement and the combination of warm and cold colors. Her painting Untitled Fragment 2/10, was inspired by a sculpture created by Umberto Boccioni.

Bridget Riley, Untitled [fragment 2/10], 1965, Tate

Directions:
1 - Find an object around the house or outside that you wish to sketch.
2 - Use sketch paper to draw an outline of your object. The lines you create can be wavy, straight, horizontal, diagonal etc. You can use Bridget Riley’s piece as a reference.
3 - Think of what medium (paint, colored pencils, crayons, ink, chalk etc.), you want to use for your lines.
4 - When it comes to color, try combining warm and cool colors together like the artist. Think of what pattern of colors you will use (red, white and blue repeated or black and white, for example).
5 - On the white paper or in an art journal, draw the object from your sketch using the medium that you chose.

This project is all about experimentation, so remember to be creative, find inspiration, and try something new.
