Art journeying is an activity that consists of the use of various symbols and visual clues, assembled to help a person visualize and remember a day in their past. Today, we are going to use the idea of art journeying to create a map of our day, from beginning to end.
Materials Needed:
● Two white pieces of papers (one for sketching and one for the final piece)
● Permanent marker
● Colored pencils
● Colored markers
Directions:
1 - Think of different journeys you have taken today. Ideas include walking to the mailbox or the store, going from the kitchen to the living room, or going on a hike.
2 - Take one of the white papers and write down some ideas like the ones above. Now, try to come up with symbols to represent each of these locations or events. Think of items in that room or landmarks in the area that could be used to symbolize the idea. For example, a bedroom could be represented by a bed, a hike by a mountain, or a store by a shopping cart.
3 - Take the second white paper and draw the symbols you’ve chosen in the order in which they occurred. This could be done in a straight line, a wavy line like a treasure map, or a more artistic pattern.
4 - Draw a line connecting each point along the way.
5 - Color in all the symbols.
Remember, you’re the artist here! Get inspired, be creative, and, most importantly, have fun!
