Activity: This week's art project features a yellow sculpture of animals inspired by the artist Florentijn Hofman’s piece Big Rabbit. Florentijn Hofman is a Dutch artist who is know for his whimsical and large versions of common objects. His goal is to promote happiness through his work. He is most famous for his work Rubber Duck which has toured throughout the world. Our example was made by Museum Educator Lisa J’s daughter Ella. She was creative in using her imagination to create her animals in different sizes and shapes. What kind of animal will you make?
Materials:
● Any material that is Yellow! For example, you could use Playdough (homemade or store-bought), clay, or Crayola’s Model Magic. Think of a material that can easily be shaped and formed and that can maintain that shape. I used Crayola’s Model Magic. It is a soft modeling material that is easy to mold and shape.
● A piece of paper and pencil to sketch
Directions:
1 - Sketch your ideas for your sculpture.
2 - Find a surface that you can create on such as a table, floor, or sidewalk. Anything stable and flat will work.
3 - Decide how large you would like your sculpture to be. Florentijn Hofman created his sculpture on a large scale, you can make your sculpture any size you want.
4 - Once you have a vision of your piece in mind, go ahead and bring it to life!
Remember, you’re the artist here! Get inspired, be creative, and, most importantly, have fun!
