The world of Illustration combines text and vision to bring a concept to life. This type of art is used in books, magazines, advertisements and websites. There is a very popular television show that talks about an upside down world that exists alongside our own. This upside down world is all around us, we just can’t see it all the time. If you look at the world as an illustrator, you can see two worlds at the same time: a world of text and a world of pictures. In fact, some illustrators have said that they see pictures instead of words when they read. For our project this week, we will take words and tell a story using pictures inspired by them.
UVU art student Rebecca Eastwood is our highlighted artist this week. Her piece, I Saw Three Ships, is an illustration of a wonderland in a child's eye. You can view it online as part of the Student Art Exhibition.

Start your story by answering a few questions (see below). Use the answers to inspire your illustrated story.
Questions to start your illustrated story:
●    What place do I dream of?
●    What do I imagine or remember about that place?
●    What do I see there: People? Plants? Animals? What is the landscape like?
●    What colors help tell this story?
Materials:
●    Sketchbook
●    Pencil and eraser
●    Any medium of your choice (paint, crayons, ink, pencil, etc.)
●    White paper or white cardstock
Directions:
●    In the sketchbook, write down the questions above and your answers to them.
●    In the sketchbook, think like an illustrator and draw the images that come to your mind when you think about your answers.
●    This project is all about your creative answers, so put as much thought as you can into them.
●    Last, combine your pictures into one idea and draw your final design on paper or cardstock to create your finished piece.
Feel inspired, be creative, and have fun!
