Our Feelings of 2022 Booklet merges elements of design with the process of booklet making, using whatever medium you like best. This project will have you think about one feeling you want to focus on and express it with different textures, colors, and images in the form of a booklet. You will find that when you use different textures and colors, it will make that feeling more expressive. We will provide some starting points below, but the rest of this booklet is up to you, so be creative!
Materials:
●    Sketchbook
●    Pencil and eraser
●    White cardstock or white paper (for the booklets)
●    Scissors
●    Any medium you choose to use (ink, paint, markers, colored pencils, etc.)
Directions for the booklets:
●    On the sketch paper, write down your early feelings of this New Year. Choose one from your list to focus on.
●    What image comes to mind when you think about the feeling you chose? For example: Fear (tall dense forest, hands covering a face, multiple jagged clouds), Hope (rainbow, cross, butterfly).
●    Sketch out some of those images on your sketch paper.
●    Think of the color you want to use to describe that feeling. Example- red/black (fear), yellow (excitement), blue (sadness) etc.
●    Take the white cardstock or white paper and fold it in half.
●    Cut along the fold of the paper, separating the two halves.
●    Take either of the cut halves and fold it in half two more times to create ¼. This will be your art booklet.
●    Make each panel stand out with the use of new colors, textures, and images to describe the feeling you chose.
●    These next steps are optional, but can really help you add some depth and life to your booklet. Feel free to follow the steps below or go ahead and create your booklet any way you imagine! Whatever helps you express your feelings best and have the most fun, go for it!
Example Steps:
●    On the first panel of the art booklet, draw the image you chose in pencil. Once that’s done, add more lines around it to create texture. In the background, draw other types of textures. For example jagged lines, circles, dots etc. There should be a strong contrast between your image and background. Texture will be how we express the emotion on this page.
●    On the second panel, draw the image again. The color you chose for that feeling will be your focus for this panel. You can do a solid color or different hues of the same color. For the background, you will use opposing colors to make your image stand out.
●    On the third panel, use different shapes to create the image and background to be more abstract. Example- squares, triangles, rectangles, etc. You will use the same colors as the previous panel for this one, making sure to have strong contrast between the image and background.
●    On the fourth panel, use the color you previously used for your image on the background. For the image, mix the textured line style from the first panel and the shapes from the third to make your image stand out.
By using different lines, shapes, textures, and colors, the feeling you have going into this new year will have different expressions. As we go through this new year, think about how your feelings have changed and how you can express them in a creative ever changing way!
This is all about you and your feelings, so remember to be inspired, get creative, and, most importantly, have fun!
