Questions to ask yourself:
•    Does using a monochrome palette tell the same story as color?
•    Where do you see monochrome art today?
This project uses light and shadow to create a story of your choosing. Think about what story you want to tell and what images you want to use to tell it. Are your forms or subjects abstract, fantasy, or realistic? Will you focus on big, bold backgrounds or strong shadowing so that the outlines of your subject disappear into the background?
Remember, black and white have very different associations, they are the complete opposites of each other. While white is pure light, black is the absence of light. Below are a few words associated with each color that you can consider before you create:
White - Clean, pure, innocent, light, and life.
Black - Dark, shadowy, unknown, and mysterious.
The balance you create between these two non-colors and the way you use them in contrast with each other, can evoke different feelings and add new layers of depth and emotion to your piece. To get started, you can follow our example.
Materials:
•    Sketchbook
•    Pencil and eraser
•    Material of your choice (black and white paper, cloth, stickers, anything in your house)

Directions:
•    On the sketch paper, write down the story you want to tell. Write down the material and medium you want to use to create your story.
•    On the sketch paper, draw out the forms that will tell your story.
•    Once you have your idea sketched, put it all together on the material you chose, using the medium you chose.
•    In our art piece, we used black paint on white paper, but this art piece is all yours, so express yourself however you feel.
Feel inspired, be creative, and have fun!
